Monday MGMT Minute: Question Your Reality

If you're not asking the hard questions, you're actually making things harder on yourself. And your team.

Read time: 1 minute

The real reason leaders don't ask hard questions?

They don't want the answer.

If we ask people to say the quiet part out loud, we'll have to do something about it.

But just because we'd prefer not to face the truth doesn't make it any less real.

The longer we defer maintenance, the more expensive the fix.

So this week, start chipping away.

At the end of your next meeting, survey the team:
🔴"Could this meeting have been an email?"

During your 1:1 with your employees, ask:
🔴"What's the one thing I should stop doing immediately?"

If your boss demands an immediate pivot,
🔴"Can you help me understand the urgency so I can prioritize correctly?"

As a leader, you have a sense of where things are off.

  • Ask a sharp question.

  • Make it clear it's safe to answer.

  • Make changes to demonstrate your commitment.

These small wins stack up quickly.

You won't always like their answers.
But they'll appreciate you for asking.

And appreciate you even more for taking action.

Lead on,
Dave & Mar
