Monday MGMT Minute: Why RTO Won't Fix Cultural Rot
Where we work doesn't matter if we don't address the issues impacting how we work.
Read time: 1 minute
The real reason leaders want us back in the office:
Remote work amplifies the problems in our team's culture.
If there's a lack of trust...
-> The increased distance makes it easier for everyone to hide.
If there's disorganization...
-> Every interaction needs to be carefully orchestrated.
If there's no feedback...
-> The burden of discussing it becomes even higher.
Instead of getting to the root of these issues and optimizing the operating system, we push to get everyone back into the office together.
"They'll figure it out," we tell ourselves.
Except they won't.
-> They might interact more, but that doesn't mean progress.
-> They might have more access, but that doesn't guarantee impact.
-> They might be more visible, but that doesn't lead to accountability.
Your R.T.O. won't magically fix the cultural rot.
-> That takes courage.
-> That takes intention.
-> That takes leadership.
The surest path to fix anything?
Be honest about what's broken.
And that can happen from anywhere.
Lead on,
Dave & Mar
